Ko’olau Golf course on the island of Oahu is named the nations hardest golf course. Rightly so too. It has a rating from the black tees of 76.4 and a slope of 162. This tends to scare a lot of people away, which means crowd free golfing for those brave enough to try it out.
Twilight for locals is $22.00 with a cart. What a steal. Although in the winter the sun goes down too early to get in enough holes in the summer you couldn’t ask for a better price. I’ve gotten in 18 a couple of times.
The course layout is tough to say the least. The trick to playing is play to a spot. Too many people try and pull out their driver to begin with, then pull out their 3 wood and go for the green every time. This will only cause headaches. Play the ball to the 150 yard marker and then play it into the green. This is the easiest way to play any course and will help you shoot low scores.
The countless ravines will give you headaches if you think they’re there. Just play it like your hitting over a nice green field and you’ll be fine.
If you don’t quit before the end the last hole is amazing. The hardest hole on the hardest course, there are 22 sand traps and 2 ravine shots. Just enjoy it. I’ve pared it once and have been on cloud nine since.
