You heard it right U2 is coming to Aloha Stadium. The Vertigo World Tour is making a stop April 8, 2006 in Honolulu, Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Tickets went of sale Saturday January 14, 2005 at 9:00 am. I decided that instead of trusting Oceanic Time Warner Road Runner Internet Access I would wake up early and go to the nearest Ticketmaster Outlet and wait in line. There happen to be Ticketmaster outlets at all Times Supermarkets, the Neal Blaisdell Arena, and Aloha Stadium. I decided I would map out a route from Waikiki, where I live, to Aloha Stadium passing at least 2 Times Supermarkets on the way. The first I would hit would be King St., then on to Kapiolani, and finally if there were lines at all these I would head to the stadium to meet my friend Mark. Kimberly would stay back and try online. We were going for GA, General Admission Tickets.
I woke at 5:50 am on Saturday morning, had some breakfast and was on my way to the first stop. If there were too many people there I would pass by and head to the next. I arrived at King Street Times to find only 3 people waiting for the doors to open. I stayed. It took another 30 minutes for anyone else to arrive but by 7:30 there were about 15 people waiting in line. I heard people talking about the arena which had 50 by 6:00 am, and the stadium which had 100 by 6:30. Mark was at the stadium and I felt good where I was, I beat the system. Kimberly wasn’t up yet.
Then I overheard some newcomers elated to find out that…. “If there are more than 5 people in line there will be a random number assignment to those who have arrived by 8:00 am.” What! I am 4th in line and there are line jumpers, stragglers, and people who didn’t even know that U2 was coming to Hawaii that may pass me by. You’ve got to be kidding me. So I waited, and waited, and in true Aloha fashion the number guy came out at 8:15 with a bag full of numbers,… 5th. Semi-sweet justice except the guy in front of me got 15th. He was a good sport and just hoped he would get his $95 seats. I was going for GA $50 so I thought better go first.
Finally called Kimberly at 8:45 who had just woken up, she was ready with two computers. 9:00 am rolled around and the battle for tickets began, the first three people got $165 tickets so they could sit down (while watching a rock concert???), 4 each, the next guy got 4 GA’s, 9:05… Then was me, 4 tickets GA, great. I left feeling as though I had beat the system.
I come to find out Kimberly had gotten tickets at 9:02 with the click of a mouse.
We now have 8 tickets in GA for the U2 concert. GA sold out in 10 minutes and Mark wasn’t able to get his from Aloha Stadium so him and his wife Laura will be joining us on our tickets along with a mutual friend. We still have 3 left and I’m sure there will be at least 10 of our friends who wished they had woken up Saturday morning, we’ll be glad to let them have them. If they don’t and you’re look for U2 tickets to Aloha Stadium contact me and maybe we can strike up a deal.
Hope you all got your tickets to the show.
Aloha
