Millions of Gallons of Sewage being Pumped into the Ala Wai

An Update on the Ala Wai sewage dumping.

It has now been reported that a sewer pipe has burst in Waikiki causing the city to pump millions of gallons of untreated sewage into the Ala Wai daily. Yes you heard right, every single day millions of gallons of raw sewage is entering the Ala Wai and finding it’s way out to the ocean. This will continue on until the city is able to fix the sewer pipe which could be as late as Friday.

Beaches are starting to have warning signs posted on them to keep surfers and swimmers out of the water but we think it might be time to close the whole south shore near and around the Ala Wai Harbor where the Ala Wai Canal channels into. Millions of gallons of sewage is a lot of sewage even for the ocean to disperse of quickly. With the expected on shore winds, swimmers are being urged by the weather people to stay out for several weeks.

We’ll keep you updated as we hear and see more.
