Kahanamoku and Fort DeRussy Beaches in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village and Hale Koa Hotel have been posted as closed. These two south shore Oahu beaches add to the Magic Island postings from yesterday. Swimmers are urged to stay out of the water and off the beach.

A recent sewage line break has forced over 13 million gallons of raw untreated sewage to be diverted into the Ala Wai and out into the Pacific Ocean. Winds that were taking the sewage out into the ocean have changed directions causing the flow and currents to push the murky water up the south shore in the direction of Diamond Head.

These beaches are to remain closed as long as the sewer line is still broken and sewage is being pumped into the Ala Wai.
