For those of you who don’t live on the Ala Wai I’ll gladly tell you that it sounds like they’ve stopped pumping raw sewage into the Ala Wai Canal. They fixed the pipe late Wednesday night and stopped pumping on Wednesday. Although there are still two pumps left handing into the Ala Wai, it doesn’t look as though they are still pumping slug aka your waste into the ocean.

On another note, looking out the other side of our condo we can see streaks of brown lining the ocean from the Ala Wai boat harbor to the Royal Hawaiian. I don’t think I’ll be swimming anytime soon in that mess.

They’ve closed most of the beaches down around those parts and it sounds like the festival scheduled for Magic Island this weekend has been postponed until next weekend. We’ll continue to keep you posted on beach closures on the south shore of Oahu as well as the state of the water quality. For now we suggest steering clear of anything that’s within a mile of the Ala Wai Boat Harbor.
