The city of Honolulu is 100 years old this year. The city has been running TV shows over the past few months to celebrate the days leading up to tomorrow July 2nd, 2006. Also the Honolulu Advertiser has been getting into the fun by throwing their own birthday bashes and celebrating the fact that their newspaper company has been around for 150 years.
The Honolulu advertiser as well as the city are going to be celebrating in style this year with several things to keep people busy all around the city. Number one in store for the island of Oahu and the city of Honolulu is a birthday cake. The cake measures 15 feet by 18 feet and can serve (feed) up to 10,000 people. Along with the cake will be 10,000 cups of ice cream provided by meadow gold.
Tonight at sunset on the beach which plays at the end of Waikiki across from the Honolulu Zoo will be a movie about the last 100 years of Honolulu. Along with the movie will be ono grinds from restaurants around the city serving goodness all evening long. Get there early so you can get a great spot on the beach.
We also want to make sure you get over to Honolulu Hale to see all the festivities, enjoy all the food and listen to all the great music tomorrow. It’s downtown and you won’t be able to miss it. It’s an all day event with tons to do for the whole family. Keiki to adults will have entertainment galore so bring everyone and help celebrate 100 years of Honolulu, Hawaii.
