The local news recently reported that the city is trying to ban the use of cell phones on the bus. Not only that, but the phone can’t even ring on the bus. The concern was that the bus driver may be distracted if a phone rings, which could potentially cause a traffic accident. This is what I think. Isn’t the bus pretty LOUD as is? How can a ring cause so much distraction? If phone talking is a distraction on the bus as well, wouldn’t talking on the bus in general be a distraction? Does that mean riders on the bus can’t talk as well? I think this law is going to far. Granted, riders should be courteous and not speak loudly on the phone next to someone else, but they shouldn’t be limited to not talking at all. If the riders who want to use a phone can’t be courteous, then they will either have to stop talking on the phone or get out of the bus. But banning cell phones on the bus? Let’s be serious. Let’s get to more important problems…like fixing (no, not patching…FIXING) those pot holes and ruined roads ALL over town.
