According to the Honolulu Advertiser, there has been an increase of littering on the beaches of east Oahu. One Hawaii Kai resident picked up 10 pounds of glass shards from a 10×50 foot patch of sand within 7 days, so his grandchild could play on the beach. This is ridiculous people. There are trash cans around the area. If there isn’t, be courteous and take your trash with you and get rid of it properly. What if people came over to your house for a party, and decided to leave all their trash in your backyard? I’m sure you wouldn’t be happy with that. It’s not only a matter of being respectful to others, but it’s also to perserve the beautiful beaches that are only found in Hawaii.
Part of the reason why people dump at the beach, according to the Honolulu Advertiser, is that in certain areas of the beach, there are no lifeguards, comfort stations, or regular groundskeepers. The Advertiser even went on to report that last week, a set of iron stairs and an air conditioner were dumped at the far end of Sandy Beach. Are you kidding me? So whoever that is, took the time to MOVE those things onto the beach when you could have taken it to the city dump? I just can’t fathom how people can be so disrespectful.
Please keep our beaches clean so you can use it whenever you want, as well as your children and grandchildren, and allow the generations to come enjoy the beaches that made Hawaii the place to be.
