Island Air has announced that it will be selling $12 neighbor island return flight tickets starting tomorrow, and only valid if you fly between now and March 15. The customer must pay the regular fare one way to the neighbor island, then the return fare will be $12. Currently, according to the Honolulu Advertiser, the cheapest one way ticket on Island Air is $31, so a round trip would cost $43 (taxes and fees already included). This will be the cheapest roundtrip interisland flight statewide.
This was possible for Island Air because they had recently laid off 15% of their employees about 2 weeks ago and also cut off five flights. The savings from those changes allowed them to give such a low fare. This move was prompted due to go! airlines dropping their one-way prices to $29 for neighbor island travel up through January 1.
Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines both have not tried to match the $12 return flight, but did match the $29 one way fare. go! airlines also will not match the $12 return flight fare.
Go get your flights if you are planning on travelling to the neighbor islands. It’s probably the best deal you’ll find. Maybe plan that trip for an early Christmas gift!
