Star Market Closing in Two Locations

If you’ve lived here long enough, you will be saddened to know that two Star Markets will be closing. The Kahala Mall and Kaneohe (across Windward Mall) Star Markets will be closing its doors in March and the end of February, respectively.

Walgreens, a national drug store, will take the place of the Kaneohe Star Market. The closing of these two Star Markets, especially the Kaneohe branch, came due to low volume sales against competing markets, such as Foodland and Times. A total of 91 employees will be out of a job, but Star Market plans to relocate some of them to the other four Star Markets around the island.

But don’t worry, as all Star Markets will not be closing for good. They are in the works to renovate their other branches, and will start with the Star Market in Kihei, Maui. Store renovations will continue to provide not only an aesthetic upgrade, but to also include an expansion of certain sections as well as building new sections.

So the next time you are driving down to Star Market around February or March, consider visiting another branch other than Kahala or Kaneohe. In the mean time, shop there while you can, because in the next 2 months, they will be gone for good.
