Honolulu Tops Average Gas Price in the Nation…Again

Driving around town I noticed that the gas prices dropped a little, then I began to hope that the downward trend would continue. Soon after, I heard on the news that Honolulu has the highest average price for gasoline in the nation. Great. I guess it wasn’t all that surprising.

According to the Honolulu Advertiser, the national average for self-serve gasoline is $2.18 a gallon. The cheapest city is Detroit at $1.86 a gallon, and Honolulu with the highest at $2.81 a gallon. That’s a whole dollar difference! For most cars, that’s at least a $10 price difference for a full tank of gas.

They also reported that the average retail price of gas dropped 14 cents over the past two weeks. Well, that appareantly didn’t happen here. When I noticed the change in price, it was about a 5-10 cent drop during the past few weeks.

I guess another price to pay to live in paradise…right?

I’m not surprised anymore. This is the reason why I ride my motorcycle to work these days. It’s a good option to consider: a full-tank costs me around $12-$13 and lasts me about 8-9 days as opposed to filling up my car.

Of course, you’re at the mercy of the elements and a few drivers who think you’re roadkill (intentionally or otherwise).
