I was quite disturbed watching the morning news today when they reported on a story about a 12 year old Kalaeloa boy, Christian, who was sitting on the curb waiting for the school bus, when a car ran his legs over and drove away. Two cars drove past him and did not even stop to help.
During the interview, the boy cried and asked many times why the driver of the car did not stop to help him, or the other two cars who past him following the accident didn’t help as well.
The surgeon noted that rods will be have to be put into place in order for Christian to walk again. The healing process will be a very long time, since Christian will also have to learn how to talk all over again.
If you were around Roosevelt Avenue by Kalaeloa, and saw the accident, or what was described as a white 4-door import car, with a gray bodykit (most likely an unpainted body kit), hood scoop, spoiler, with 4-5 spoke rims, call Crimestoppers at 955-8300. Looking at the specifications, the car seems to be a Subaru Impreza WRX. Of course, I’m not completely sure, and I don’t want people calling into Crimestoppers of all the WRX’s in the area, but if you happen to see a car that matches this description, it could possibly be the vehicle.
Hopefully this kind of accident doesn’t happen again. For the sake of the boy and his family, I hope the person who did this will find the heart to turn himself in.
