Some friends and I recently headed over to the Big Island of Hawaii to Kailua Kona for the Kona Brew Festival to enjoy some Big Island fun and some great beers!
For the second year in a row we stayed at the Royal Kona Resort over-looking Kailua Bay right in Kailua Town on the main beach stretch. When we were there last year they were renovating and upgrading and in true Hawaii fashion, they’re still renovating.
But that doesn’t mean a thing to people wanting to stay there. It’s still a great place to stay and we would recommend the Royal Kona Resort to anyone wanting a taste of Old Hawaii Hotels with spectacular views, great rooms, great access, and great service. The lady at the front desk even remembered our friends last name (who the room was under) from a year ago!
Almost all of the rooms over look Kailua Bay and the rooms are almost all remodeled and upgraded with new sinks, furniture, beds, countertops and carpet. The beds were comfortable and each room comes with a lanai (porch for those mainlanders) where you can enjoy a morning coffee in the Kona breeze and watch the waves roll in.
They’ve also re-done and opened Don the Beachcomber’s Mai Tai Bar and Restaurant which has some of the best views of Kailua Kona Town that you’ll ever see. And the best with a great meal. Don the Beachcomber’s also claims to be the birthplace of the famous Mai Tai (although we’ve heard a few others claim to have invented that wonderful drink!)
Overall, the Royal Kona Resort is clean and a greta place to stay, with an affordable rate. Check out all their rates on the travel sites and book in advance. A lot of times theres no rooms available last minute and especially none during the Brew Fest!
