In the May 2007 issue of Transworld Surf, which I’m finally getting around to reading (yeah it’s only March) has it’s cover story being the “10 Best Surf Trips under $2000.” All trips are based out of California and theres a lot of good spots to choose from.
You would think, even from Cali, Hawaii would have made more than 1 spot on the list. Then again, you have to give other surf spots around the North America/South America region their due. Plus rents on the North Shore alone might run a grand in the winter months.
But, there is one Hawaii surf destination that has made the list. Maui waui! That’s right, from So Cal you can make the trek for a week of surfing on the shores of Maui, Hawaii. Of course, if you want to catch a good swell you may have to wait out a last minute ticket costing you muchos. (unless of course your farmers Almanac is super accurate)
Whenever you come you’ll more likely than not be able to catch a few decent days of waves, summer or winter. And at $1,880 for the trip you may just want to come for the fun anyway.
$1,880 was figured from $390 flight, $250 car, $100 gas (it’s a small island), $35/day food and drink (good luck with that), and $60 for lodging (be sure to share.)
We would suggest a nice cushion of $700 but even at $2,500 it would be an awesome trip.
