Notice How Much Less Traffic There Is

It always happens. Every year, around the summer, Christmas, and spring break, the drivers of Oahu begin to notice something. 50 times less traffic than the rest of the year.

That’s right, schools out for a little while and that means all the students who commute aren’t clogging the roads. The University of Hawaii is a commuting school. Most of it’s students are from Hawaii and don’t live on campus in the limited housing there is available.

I haven’t driven on H1 yet since the break started this week but I can tell you that in town the traffic has been better than usual. Even with all the construction that’s starting on various major roadways at prime times.

Wouldn’t this spark a light in some law makers head that says maybe they should focus their public transit efforts on this issue to alleviate the problems. I heard the rail system they proposed was between shopping centers and didn’t really support the large student population.

Maybe that’s just rumors, I haven’t read the rediculous proposal (although I did see maps and nowhere on the Hawaii transit proposal was there a little rail looking line going to the University of Hawaii.)

Anyone else notice this?
