Finally. After being in the mainland for five years, I’ve always wanted a Target in Hawaii. As you all know, popular stores take forever before they reach the islands. Abercrombie and Fitch took quite a while, and Best Buy finally moved into two locations. And as previously reported, Walgreens is coming as well. Now, Target is coming to Hawaii and they are planning to build their store in Kapolei by 2009.
It was reported on KHON news that Target has been scouting locations in Hawaii for a few years. They finally decided to open up shop in Kapolei which is right across the Honolulu Advertiser building. The area will also contain a lot of small stores and eateries to create a new shopping complex.
We have a Walmart and K-mart here, but I just think Target is more of an upscale version of Walmart. Not only is Target cleaner and more well organized, but the prices are also competitively priced for what I believe are higher quality products.
I also know a lot of people here on the islands who have visited Target and wished that it would come to Hawaii. Now that Target has officially announced Kapolei as their first store in Hawaii, I’m sure they are all excited.
Although I live in town, I would glady drive to Kapolei just to go to Target. Yes, Walmart is seriously a 5 minute drive away from where I live, but I think Target is just that much better. And you know how most people are…when a new store opens, everyone goes there. I already know how good it is, so I’ll be showing up constantly just because I love Target. I’m pretty sure I’ll be a regular customer.
Hopefully they do well enough to open another Target closer to town. It might give Walmart and K-mart a run for their money, but I think it would be a wise move.
