Hiking the Kuli’ou’ou Ridge Trail on Oahu’s South Shore

This is my favorite hike on Oahu’s south shore. Why? It is the perfect distance (about 5 mile loop) which takes me about 2-3 hours, depending on how long I spend taking in the views. It involves some great climbs to give your heart and lungs a good workout while taking you through several different changes in terrain. You start off in the valley…

…and then reach the final ridge climb in a tropical forest.

It all ends with some astounding views of the South Shore.

You can also opt to do the Kuliou’ou Valley loop, which is only about 2 miles, and doesn’t involve any major climb. It is good if you only have an hour to spare and just want a relaxing stroll – great for walking a dog!
