Who’d a guessed that a small restaurant located on a pier on the Honolulu Harbor would have great fish? OK, everyone probably would have guessed it. But they do, and you should go!
The other day I headed out Ala Moan/Nimitz with some co-workers to grab a bite to eat at Nico’s Pier 38 Waterfront Restaurant in Honolulu. I was told the Furikake Pan Seared Ahi w/ Ginger Garlic Cilantro Sauce which costs only $8.15 and is pictured here is delicious and that I should definitely get that for my first time to Nico’s.
However, I for some reason can’t stand seaweed. I can eat just about everything except it. Maybe sooner or later I’ll learn to love it.
On the way in you wouldn’t guess that there’s a restaurant back there at pier 38 but there is, and it was packed. Hardly any place to park, a long line, and people waiting for tables. So you know somethings there has to be good.
We ended up getting a table right away and I sat while the others ordered. The atmosphere was pretty sweet, outside under a canopy watching the fishing boats restock.
I got the Ahi sandwhich with fries. I must say it was delightful. I’d recommend that to anyone. They also have a catch o’ the day that in hindsight I should have gotten but I’ll save that for next time. Ahi is a good standby.
You can easily eat there for under $10 with a drink. Unless of course you want to get dessert, which we did, and that might push you over the top. The food was excellent, straight through dessert, and the setting is great. I suggest you put Nico’s into the rotation of your lunch escapes.
