Hiking up Koko Crater on Oahu, Hawaii

I don’t know if I’d call this a hike, but rather an outdoor Stairmaster. If you are in the mood for a serious leg and butt workout, this is the place. The climb up takes 30-60 minutes, depending on your intensity…

Hiking up the steep end of Koko Crater, Oahu, Hawaii

You will definitely be feeling it and might even curse the trail while you are climbing. But…it is a great view when you get to the top. You can see Hanauma Bay, Makapu’u, Hawaii Kai, Waikiki, and even up to Kailua. You feel like you are on to of the world up there.

The journey back down is easy – you can practically run down the stairs and be at the bottom in 20 minutes.

Hi Erik, I’ve climbed a lot of ridges there on Oahu - and yet I never made it over to that one. It’s so obvious there, but just never had the chance before I left. Have you been to stairway to heaven? Oh god, now THAT is a stairmaster workout. My legs were quivering after that one. Of course my swedish friend “Christian” - you may know him there, is a hasher and he wanted to basically race me up the thing. Not a good experience and yet - a wonderful experience, you know? Thanks for the blog -good reading. Vern

Hey Vern- Sorry about the late followup to your comment. I haven’t been to stairway to heaven but I’ve always wanted to try it out. Looks crazy!
