Here We Go Again…Gas Price Over $3 a Gallon

Within the last month, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report, Hawaii’s gas prices has risen 16 cents a gallon.  That now puts the average gasoline price over $3 a gallon.

There isn’t much we can do at this point.  The only thing we can do is try and drive more conservatively, find cheaper gas stations, and perhaps drive a more economical car.  I used to own a Infiniti G35 coupe which got around 15.5 miles per gallon on premium gas.  Normally, the car wouldn’t have such low gas mileage, but I drive in the city to get to work which takes a toll on the gas.  A full tank would cost close to $70 because the car took 20 gallons of gas.  Now, I drive a much more economical car, which gets about 25 miles per gallon in the city, and only requires regular gas.

But look at the prices of regular gas these days.  According to www.honolulugasprices.com, Costco gas is at $2.92 for regular grade gasoline.  The Navy Exchange sells their regular gas at $2.86, but most of us don’t have access to the Navy Exchange.  The cheapest gas seems to stay around the Wahiawa and Waipahu area, with gas around $2.90.  Once you come into town, you are looking at $3.05 to $3.09 for a gallon of regular gas.

With gas prices still continuing to rise, I guess we can only do so much to save our money.  But the reality is, we need to go where we need to go.  And if we need to drive our car, it makes no sense for us to save that gas money if we can’t get to our destination.  It also doesn’t make sense to not drive your car if you own one, because you spent money on your car that you aren’t going to get back, so you lose money regardless.

Oh well.  I guess high prices isn’t something new when you live in Hawaii.
