KHON News reported a story on a thief who broke into a couple’s car and took their garage door opener. From there, the thief opened the garage door to their house and robbed them of their belongings. How did the thief find out where they lived? Pop open the glove compartment and find their registration…their address is listed for all to see.
This is just crazy. Seriously now, things are just getting out of hand these days. So what do you need to do to prevent this from happening? Well, hiding your garage door opener won’t make a difference, because if it’s in the car, the thief will find it. So now all those who have a garage door opener will have to inconveniently carry the opener with them each time they get out of their car.
If you own a car that has the Home Link system, make sure you utilize that and put your garage door opener in a safe place. This way, the only way a thief could get into your house would be to steal your car completely.
As much as I would like to trust my surroundings, this latest way to get into someone’s house is just plain scary. Be careful out there and keep that garage door opener out of sight.

Seems like thieves are becoming more and more clever, unfortunately.
It is probably a good idea to have a deadbolt lock on the door from the garage into the house and make sure it stays locked, too.
