Recycling Rates Up, So Go and Recycle!!!

For those of you who take the time to separate your glass bottles and aluminum cans so that you can drop them off at the recycling station, there is more good news.  The state has announced that starting today, the price per pound of recycling material has increased.  According to the Honolulu Star Bulletin, a pound of glass bottles is now equal to 2.3 containers, which increases the pay from 11 cents to 11.5 cents.  A pound of aluminum cans are now equal to 31.6 containers, which is $1.58, up from $1.52.

Sure, a few cents here and there doesn’t seem like much.  But for those of you who really go out there and recycle, you can actually reap some benefits from this latest increase in pay.  I’m sure the reason for this increase is to serve as an incentive for more people to recycle.  I mean, after all, you already pay a redemption fee when you buy your soda’s, juices, and alcohol.  So why would you pay this extra fee if you don’t get some of it back?  You might as well take it down to the recycling center, not only to get some money back, but to also help the environment.

So make sure you start recycling.  Hey, the money isn’t bad, but just know that you are helping the environment.
