Mondo Gelato at the Waikiki Beachwalk

Just the other night, I went down to eat at the Cheesecake Factory after a night at the movies.  After dinner, we decided to take a walk down to the Waikiki Beachwalk, which is located on the newly renovated Lewer’s St.  The cheesecake just wasn’t enough to fill our craving for dessert, so we decided to try out the new gelato store on the Beachwalk called Mondo Gelato.

The store was very well lighted and kind of on the smaller end, but cozy nonetheless.  There were a variety of flavors, including pecan, pineapple, green apple, strawberry, Kona coffee, and mango.  All the workers were really nice and allowed you to try any of the flavors.  I ended up getting the pineapple and my girlfriend ended up with the strawberry.  Both were very good and not as sweet like most types of ice cream.  Both have a very light flavor, but had a more icey consistency than creamy.  Prices are kind of steep with a small (one scoop) in a cup costing about $3.50.  Then again, you pay about the same amount if you go to Coldstones.

I told my coworker to go and he ended up getting the green apple which he absolutely loved, and his wife got the Kona coffee.  Both are flavors I will probably try in the near future…maybe next week?

If you are in the Waikiki area, make sure you visit this cute cozy little gelato store.  They open daily at 8am and close at 11pm.  More information can be seen at their website at: http://www.mondogelato.com/content/stores/waikiki.php.

Happy eating!
