Ben & Jerry’s to Celebrate One Year Anniversary

The first Ben & Jerry’s to open in Hawaii at the Ward location will celebrate their one year anniversary on June 30.  In fact, for those of you who missed it, the original Jerry from Ben & Jerry came to visit the Ward franchise yesterday and scooped ice cream for customers for $1 a cone.

Jerry plans for the franchise owners to open 4-5 more shops in the next four years around Hawaii.  Personally, I think that the ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s is a little pricey, but then again, so is everywhere else I go, including Mondo Gelato.  At $3.29 for one scoop, you can get a nice little pint at the market for just a little more, and if on sale, cheaper.  But then again, there is a difference buying ice cream at a parlour and eating it there, compared to just buying it at the market and bringing it home to eat.  Plus, it’s a nice place to just be social and hang out with friends while eating some ice cream.

Nevertheless, I thought it was pretty cool of Jerry to actually be scooping the ice cream for customers.  I mean come on, he’s one of the creators of the famous ice cream…the last thing he should be doing is scooping ice cream.  But that’s the coolest part…that he serves the customers that got him there in the first place.  He seems to be a humble person, and genuinely likes to serve customers.

So head down to the Ward Ben & Jerry’s.  Who knows, Jerry might be serving you a cone this week!
