Icon Sport: FEARLESS on June 30th

For all you MMA fans out there, Icon Sport is bringing you another exciting card at the end of this month.  In fact, newly crowned Icon Sport Middleweight Champ Robbie “Ruthless” Lawler will be defending his belt against the heavy hitting and rising star Kala Kolohe Hose.  With both being standup artists, look for this to be an extremely exciting match.  Kala does have heavy hands, but his chin has never really been tested before.  Looking at his stature, he looks like he can take a punch, but Robbie’s hands are known to be lethal.  Robbie on the other hand has been knocked hard many times, and we all know he can take a punch.  And to make matters worse, Robbie seems to get more aggressive the harder you hit him.  This should be the fight of the night.

Renato “Charuto” Verissimo will be fighting on this card as well.  Responsible for BJ Penn’s extraordinary jiu-jitsu skills, Charuto will most likely take this to the mat and submit his opponent.  But don’t be surprised if he stands too, since he has pretty good hands and feet.  Another local fighter, Poai Suganuma will also appear to fight his second fight with ICON.  Billed as one of the most underrated fighters, Poai did not live up to his expectations with his debut at ICON, clinching most of the time, with the crowd booing all the way until his lackluster decision win.  Hopefully he will come out more aggressive and show why he deserves to be one of the best.  He has the potential…let’s just hope he can show it.

ICON Sport’s Flyweight Champion Mark Oshiro will defend his belt that night as well, and the man he beat to get the belt, Tyson Nam will also be on the card.  Both fighters are very exciting, so don’t blink or you just might miss an exciting knockout or submission.

Jeremy Williams, from “The Contender” fame, will be pitted against Mike Malone who recently lost to Hong Man Choi at the K-1 event in Hawaii.  Williams, who has been training with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Bas Rutten, and Randy Couture, should be very well rounded and should have a large arsenal.  Mike Malone, who is a powerful kickboxer, will have his hands full since he is mostly one dimensional as a standup fighter.  Malone should look to knockout Williams if he has any chance to win.  I see Williams winning by submission or TKO.

Lastly, Mark Kurano, a jiu-jitsu expert and host of Hawaii’s own Fighter’s Club TV, will be making his debut into the MMA world.  With all his experience as a jiu-jitsu and MMA instructor, hopefully he will be able to bring those skills to the ring.

Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com, or any Ticketmaster outlet including the Blaisdell Center.  Have fun at the fight!
