For all of you wondering what ever happened to the Taste of Honolulu, don’t worry. This year, the event has changed its name to Flavors of Honolulu and will run next weekend from June 29th to July 1st. It will be held at the same place, the Honolulu Civic Grounds, and admission will be $6 for adults, $3 for children, $10 for a 2 day pass, and $15 for the full 3 day weekend pass.
For those of you who haven’t gone before, this is how it works. After you pay your admission costs, you purchase scripts much like you would do at a carnival. Then you go around the vendors, choose the foods you would like to eat, and pay with your scripts. They have everything from fine dining to just local foods. There are also restaurants from hotels and last time I went, they also had ice cream from Cold Stone’s. And for you adults out there, there is also a small booth for wines.
It’s a great place to socialize, eat, and just get together. I love going, and I try to go every year. Parking is sometimes hard, but if you get there early enough, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Last year, I parked by the bus parking grounds next to the police station. It’s about a 2-3 minute walk to the Civic Grounds.
Make sure you go because it’s a lot of fun. Yes, it can add up in cost, but it would cost much more if you wanted to eat at all those restaurants. They even have entertainment too, with appearances by Tia Carrare and a few others. They usually have a booth that usually showcases a cookoff, which broadcasts live on TV. I’m not sure if they are going to do that this year, but I bet they would.
I’ll see you next weekend! Happy eating!

How many scripts does a usual dish cost? Any idea?

Hi Kent. Sure, you can purchase tickets ahead of time. The reason why you didn’t get the discounts in the mail this year is because the Taste of Honolulu has changed owners and is now part of Abilities Unlimited Hawaii. You can reserve tickets at their website at https://www.enterapp.net/secure/abilitiesunlimited/flavors/. That’s the direct link. Hope this helps!
