I was surprised yesterday as I was walking around Ala Moana with my family and saw a sign at Jackie’s Kitchen saying that it was closed starting that day. What’s going on? They just spent money to overhaul the interior of the restaurant to spice it up, and they even changed the executive chef who created a whole new menu. To me, renovation usually means that they are optimistic about business, and want to make their place even better for customers. They usually wouldn’t spend money unless it would benefit their business. That is why I am in such a shock that they suddenly closed down.
At the same time, I don’t ever see that many people eating at the restaurant. It was never really crowded, and there was never really a wait either. Personally, I didn’t find the food to be that bad at all. Although, I have not tried the new menu, so I can’t say whether the new renovated Jackie’s was any good.
Sadly, the restaurant lasted a little over 4 years. And being the first Jackie’s Kitchen in the United States, the Hawaii branch couldn’t live up to its expectations. I guess every business feels the pressure…not only local businesses.
