Do you hate getting stuck at an airport because you got bumped off the plane? It is definitely not a rare occurence any more that you get bumped from an overbooked plane. Actually it happens quite often from my experience of flying to and within the mainland. Airlines are reducing the number of flights, and largers planes are being sent to the international routes. So now we get stuck with less frequent flights with smaller planes when you travel domestically.
To my surprise, the U.S. Department of Transportation is now considering penalizing airlines by forcing them to provide not only reimbursement for the tickets but also cash compensation for overbooking. In some cases, you can get twice the amount of your ticket price. The way we can get this actually implemented is to comment on this potential policy. Please go to the DOT’s official press release and express your support in the next 60 days. The domestic airlines have been horribly neglecting us, and now it is payback time!
