After dinner last night my girlfriend and I wanted some dessert, and since her freezer wasn’t working all that well, we didn’t have any ice cream at home. Sad. So what to do? Well, we didn’t want something totally fattening, but at the same time, we wanted something that tasted good. Then we decided to drive down to Fro-Yo on S. King St.
And what an awesome decision that was! We’ve eaten here before, and were pleasantly surprised with their healty frozen yogurt. Of course I’m always skeptical when normally fattening items are labelled healthy. But after tasting their frozen yogurt, I was not a skeptic anymore.
This frozen yogurt haven is actually located on 1461 S. King St. You’ll see it on the side of the road. You can park on the street right in front of the store if you’re lucky, otherwise you can turn right on the next street (Kaheka), and turn your first right again to find the parking lot. Parking it free from 5:30-9:00pm and on the weekends as well.
The store is a small little cozy place. There are no tables except for a bar with some stools. Next to the bar is a flat screen TV that has been playing only music videos as far as I’ve seen. And behind the bar are soft serve machines.
Everyday the flavors change. There are over 30 flavors, but they usually only sell 4 flavors a day (at least that’s what I encountered the two times I’ve been there). Last weekend I had their strawberry which was actually really really good, and she had the vanilla which was also very good. A small cup costs $3.00, but they put A LOT of frozen yogurt into the cup. He also told us that we could mix and match or half-and-half as well, so we did that last night. We ended up getting half velvet cream vanilla and half blueberry cheesecake. Plus, all the pricing on the menu is flat rate, so if it says $3, you pay $3! I really like that because I just hate carrying around change.
With half a cup being only 32 calories, with no fat and 7g of sugar, this really is a healthy dessert…that doesn’t taste healthy! Yes, the frozen yogurt comes out of a soft serve machine, but it tastes great, and the consistency is good as well. So far all the flavors we got were really tasty and makes us want to go back for more.
You can also get a card, and for each cone or cup you eat, they stamp the card. After 8 stamps, you get one free. Now that’s a deal. And you can sample as many flavors if you want, so you don’t end up buying something you don’t like.
I guess that only gripe is parking, but so far we were able to find parking without paying anything. Besides that, this place is a winner. I suggest you all go down and check it out. I know I’m going back soon.
