California Rockin’ Sushi on Ward Ave.

One of our interns was going back to school, so we all decided to take her out for a goodbye lunch.  She liked sushi, so we decided to go up the street from work and hit California Rockin’ Sushi on Ward Ave.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was very laid back.  There were fish paintings all over the walls.  The tables are all wooden and nothing special.  And like all sushi restaurants, the restaurant has a long sushi bar with stools for people to sit and eat on the counter.

They have many special rolls, with prices ranging around the $10-15 range.  We ended up getting their lunch combo specials which were VERY cheap and came with A LOT of food.  For $7.99, I got their super lunch combo which included a choice of teriyaki chicken or chester chicken (which are little bite sized fried chicken…if you ever had chicken karrage, you’ll know what I’m talking about), six pieces of california roll, two deep fried shrimp shumais (little dumplings), fried chicken wing, salad, and miso soup.  The chicken karrage was very good…crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.  They even had a kick of spicyness and sweetness.  For 70 cents more, my girlfriend got the salmon combo, which included everything I said above, but replaces the chicken with salmon.

Was this place worth it?  For me it definitely was.  The sushi rolls, nigiri, and sashimi were typical of prices at other sushi restaurants, and maybe a little cheaper.  The combos were very cheap for the amount and quality.  It’s a great bargain, in town, and good quality food.  Check it out!
