Hawaiian Telcom Announces Fastest Internet on the Island

Hawaiian Telcom has been competing in the high-speed internet service, especially against Oceanic Cable.  With Hawaiian Telcom’s DSL service, people are able to use the internet at about 3 Mbps (megabytes per second) for $29.99 a month.  Compare this to Oceanic Cable’s cable internet, which is about 8 Mbps for $44.95 a month.  Sounds steep, but with many offers such as the first 6 months being $29.95, many people end up ordering cable internet.  On top of that, it is more than twice the speed of DSL.

Now, Hawaiian Telcom is charging $39.99 per month for 7 Mbps, and a blistering speed of 11 Mbps for $49.99 per month.  For $5 more, you can get the fastest internet out there.  And if you act now, you will be waived the initial $25 activation fee.  Or you can get a comparable 7 Mbps for $5 less than Oceanic.  As you can see, Hawaiian Telcom is doing whatever they can to switch users to their internet service.

What’s more, Hawaiian Telcom used to require you to have a telephone line in order to use DSL.  Now, you can use DSL without any telephone line.  That is precisely the reason why I chose to end DSL service, because I didn’t want to use my telephone line anymore, and pay for a slower internet service.  Not only that, but back then, Hawaiian Telcom’s customer service was TERRIBLE.  I’ve heard it’s gotten better, but I have yet to see.  Let’s just say they hung me up after waiting 1 hour on the phone TWICE after I called to disconnect my phone line.  Yes, I was that patient.

With a 30 day money back guarantee, this might be the way to go.  Hopefully Hawaiian Telcom has cleaned up their act…and if they did, I’m contemplating to switch over.  Maybe.
