According to the Honolulu Advertiser, the hit A&E show Dog the Bounty Hunter will now feature the majority of its music from Hawaiian musicians. If you catch the show on a regular basis, you might have noticed that the music playing in the background for this new season has been more local artists from Hawaii.
The show’s producers want to include more different types of genres of of music made by Hawaii artists. They will include traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music, Jawaiian, and jazz. In last night’s episode, they featured a Hawaiian rap artist.
The upcoming fifth season should include more music from Hawaii artists, which will start in April , although you can already tell they are including more of it now. This is good, since Hawaii artists do have a lot to offer, yet their music are normally just played in Hawaii. Hawaiian artists also struggle a lot to get their music out to the world, and unless they are already famous, they usually can’t make it out of Hawaii. Case in point, Isreal Kamakawiwaole’s song was featured on an Adam Sandler movie, which helped put Hawaiian music on the map. If it wasn’t for the movie, not many people would have got the chance or given the artist the opportunity to listen to what Hawaii artists have to offer.
I think this is a good way of showing the world that Hawaii does have music artists of all genres, and that we are good at it as well. Hopefully this will help local artists get their music played around the world soon.
