We went down to the Sony Expo yesterday after work to check out Sony’s new products, and boy, do they have a lot of things to see! The Sony Expo was held at the Ala Moana Hotel in the Hibiscus Ballroom. You can just park on the mall level next to the ramp that connects the mall to the hotel, and when you walk up the ramp, you’ll see the Expo once you open the double doors.
So what was there? There were tons and tons of HD TVs, along with their proprietary Blu-ray Disc players, Playstation 3’s, handycams, home entertainment systems, walkmans, and cameras. What I was most amazed about were two things. One was their 3mm thick LCD flat panel TV. This amazing TV was so thin, but produced extremely clear and vivid pictures. They were playing Open Season, and the colors and details were just amazing. With a contrast ratio of 1000000:1, this has to tbe the clearest image I’ve ever seen. Too bad it is only a prototype and won’t be sale anytime soon, but at least it shows the innovation of what’s to come from Sony.
The other thing that was amazing was this thing called the Sony Rolly. It’s basically this little egg that dances to music. The egg was really animated and did some crazy dance moves. It’s hard to explain, but it was definitely the show stopper. You can check a video of it here (Source: Youtube):

Want to get your hands on the Sony Rolly? Well, as for now you can’t. It wil be released in Japan this December according to the Sony rep there, and retails for about $350. Sony has still yet to decide whether it will bring this cool device to the States.
So head down there if you can. The Expo is only from November 6-8. On November 6-7, they are open 10am-9pm, and on November 8, 9am-1pm. Go check it out especially since it’s free! Have fun!
