Burgers on the Edge Review

I’m a big meat eater, and when after grocery shopping at the new and large Safeway in Kapahulu, we stopped by the brand new Burgers on the Edge restaurant. There were more than a few people there, so we figured why not give it a try. But man oh man, was I disappointed…on so many levels.

Burgers on the Edge is actually a gourmet burger restaurant from the creators of Formaggios (a GREAT restaurant and wine bar at Marketcity Shopping Center under the H1 Freeway), so I expected good things. The restaurant itself was very small, but they did have a decently cool layout with flat panel TV screens on the walls to show you the menu, rotating pictures of what they serve, and a make-your-own burger menu.

I ended up ordering a burger with gruyere cheese, bacon, grilled onions, roasted red peppers, sundried tomatoes, and garlic aioli in a ciabatta bun. Sounds good right? With that many toppings, you would think there would be a lot of taste. Guess again. It tasted really plain. I do have to agree that the burger was decently large and it was juicy, but I couldn’t really taste much. It kind of threw me off. The ciabatta wasn’t warm either, which wasn’t too pleasant since it was cold. Was it worth the $9? No, not at all.

My girlfriend on the other hand got the stuffed portabella mushroom sandwich. Whatever it was stuffed with, she told me it wasn’t good and that it looked like there was no stuffing to begin with. The worst part of it? She said it was COLD…no, not even luke warm, not room temperature…COLD. Pretty nasty.

We also ordered the regular fries, and wow, how can you mess up fries? They were hot but they weren’t crispy at all. In fact, they were kind of soggy and didn’t have much taste. If you like potatoes without salt, this may be for you, but we both didn’t like it. To give them some credit, it tasted like fresh cut potatoes instead of frozen potatoes. But that’s the only plus I can give the fries.

So the total ended up costing us $25 for the two sandwiches, one order of regular fries, and one drink. Was it worth it? Not even a little. The wait also took about 15 minutes to receive our food. REALLY?! That long for a burger? I could see people outside getting irritated that their food was taking quite a while as well. I can’t blame them.

So save your money and go elsewhere for a burger. You can find better for cheaper…MUCH cheaper.

They must stop precooking the burgers! I have never heard any other upscale burger place do this. Totally ruins the good meat since their burgers are DRY and the bun STILL manages to fall apart. If Kua Aina can serve a juicy burger and still have the bun hold together, others can too.

I actually enjoyed my experience at Burgers on the Edge. I ordered a burger with smoked bacon, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, gruyere cheese, and portobello mushrooms. I dinned in and they served my burger to my table. I ate indoors and the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. My burger was warm and flavorful! The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. You probably didn’t eat your meal right away causing it to become cold. Their food is fresh and if you wanted greasy deep fried food, you should have gone and ate at a fast food place where you could have had salty crispy fries.

I eat there at least twice a week. I order a burger with jalapeno ketchup, romaine lettuce, sliced onions, tomatoes, and jalapeno peppers. And I get it to go. By the time I get home my burger is still warm and juicy and full of flavor. And my fries are always crispy. My response to the couple that stated their burger was COLD and nasty and that their was not enough stuffing, instead, of complaining, did you ever think about informing anyone there about your food? If they are not informed, how do you expect them to fix the problem. And the part about people being irritated (that is an out right lie), I always wait for my order inside the restaurant, I always hear the cashiers tell each customer how long it will take, even when its not busy. So stop whining and complaining and take a more proactive approcach. How do you expect them to improve.

I saw this place on the way to the beach and not knowing a new buger place compelled me to stop by on the way back. At first, I was just looking up at the menue in awe that they had prime beef and then to send me further into space, wagyu beef. after picking prime, I startedd to move to the right of the menue, choosing cheese, toppings and sauses.Paid and was given a number and went outside. Within 4=5 minutes, my order was up. I was very happy with the size and how juicy my burger was. It was dripping as I ate it and could tase the garlic aioli sause down my throat as I swallowed. The meat was extremly tatsy and the special artisian bread held togther well. What a wonderful gourmet burger. I AM GOUNG BACK NEXT WEEK AND BRINGING TWO OTHERS SO THEY TELL TWO PEOPLE AND SO ON, AND SO ON…..One of the best burger on island

This place is a potential public health nightmare. My first burger was barely cooked. After bringing it to the manager’s attention, he offered me a replacement. While cooked slightly more, the replacement still had plenty of red and pink (undercooked) meat. With the potential for illness from undercooked meat (i.e. e. coli, etc.), I won’t be eating there again.

  6. Jimmy Says:

Are you kidding? This place is a nightmare! I don’t know how there are any positive reviews of this place. Not only is it expensive, but the bread is ALWAYS soggy, the wait takes forever, and the burgers are tasteless! Unless the positive reviews are some people who work there (which it totally sounds like), I can’t see how you enjoyed your meal unless you have very low standards. The price is outrageous for what they serve. They can’t even deep fry french fries correctly. I know a ton of people who are outraged about their food from Burgers on the Edge, and the best positive response I got was that the burgers were “okay”. Doesn’t sound so positive does it? Maybe I’ll ask my friends to visit this site and let you guys know more about how bad this place is.

Looking for a good burger? Then I recommend you should try this place. My experience with them so far is good. I’ve tried a lot of places to eat but no place has ever made me go back for their burger but this place has all in one, good customer service, cool ambiance and burger for people with high standard. I will definitely go back there again.

  8. Cyndi411 Says:

I have no idea what the heck this reviewer is talking about he and Jimmy obviously don’t know good food. I’ve been there twice in 3 days. The Truffled Fries are AWESOME and no one around me (all tables inside and outiside were full) — was irritated, because the food came out very quickly.

For the record … I DON’T WORK THERE and I have VERY HIGH STANDARDS for my food. So Jimmy and review guy, go back to eating your grade D beef burgers and I’ll continue to enjoy my burgers on the edge.

I agree with all the negative comments about this place. Everything negative about it has happened to me. Poor customer service, VERY slow to receive order, and VERY poor burgers and fries. When the meat is undercooked that in itself is a potential health hazard. And the bread must come out of the fridge…they were very cold. Never will I ever submit myself to this place again. I am glad though that there are some people who enjoy their burgers there…everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. I for one, will continue to keep myself and all my friends and family away from this place…far far away.

I ate at Burger’s on the Edge a few weeks ago and have no intentions of going back there…the food was horrible! I ordered a portabello stuffed mushroom burger like the reviewer and I also received it cold. I thought that they might have given me someone’s old order but after reading the review it just seems like they precook the food ahead of time and leave it on the side till someone orders. They don’t even bother to warm it up. The burger was also tasteless. Bleh. It is not worth the money or the half an hour spent waiting for it. I say the best part of the meal was the fountain drink I ordered, at least they didn’t mess that one up. Oh wait they did mess that one up too. They gave me the wrong size lid for my drink and insisted that it was the correct one when obviously it was too small. After THREE tries they came back with the right size lid. Talk about great customer service. I totally agree that you could buy burgers ten times better from fast food places which are at LEAST served warm.

I guess its hit or miss. I went on a Sunday evening so it was slow. They had about seven people working there, but the cook was the only one that appeared to be doing anything. I was a bit overwhelmed by all the choices, so I got the burger of the month and regular fries ($11.32). The burger was so well done it was crispy in places. I like’m juicy so I would have traded with the whiner for the rare one. I’ll go back for another try. On the original review the guy says the sister restaurant Formaggios is a GREAT restaurant…actually its an over-priced dive in the basement of a strip mall. At least at Burgers on the Edge they can only rip you off on the food and not the wine as well.

I find your digital menu to be a misleading advertisement. The product has been unsatisfactory in several respects and has not met my expectations. While we were in the area
my guests were hungry for anything in the vicinity of eateries, for the first time out of curiosity I suggested Burgers on the Edge.
Wagyu burgers ? Dissapointingly DRY ! my guests were unable to eat it all because it was excessively chared in some areas.
Service? no counter person informed me about the long waiting period ( This is the Truth.)
Can you give me any good reason for ever buying another gourmet burger from this Fast Food eatery again? I dont like writting someone off on the basis of a single error, but one bad menu item is one too many.

Best darn burgers in the world?, Who are you kiddin’?
I told the kid behind the counter that this place isnt gonna’ make it to far.
Where / Who in the world is the manager ? she said that he was over there on the other side.I told her what other side Darlin’? she pointed at another restaurant. I let her know that it wasnt her fault for serving DRY and Tasteless burgers, she apologized with sincerity. Service was good, I probably will pass it by on my next visit to safeway.

  14. RaNae Says:

What a dissapointment. Not one to complain, but I feel compelled to share how awful my family’s meal was last night! The burgers were cooked to a crisp and were dry and tasteless as a result. The photos of burgers in the restaurant present a nice round burger…we all received flat, thin, charred, overcooked burgers. On a more minor note, I understand they are specializing in sauces, but when I requested mayonaise on my burger, the cashier directed me to the packages of mayo on the counter. I don’t mind using packages if I’m at a concession stand, but when I’m paying higher prices for a burger, I was shocked that not only would they not spread some mayo on my burger bun, but they would not put ketchep on my daughters’ burger buns either. Also, they do not even put a slice of cheese on the burgers..as pictured…they just put on a very small amount of shredded cheese…seriously cutting corners.I don’t think the above would have bothered me as much if the burgers were awesome…..but, quite the opposite was true. For the previous bloggers that had mentioned great food, they must of got lucky with a cook that knew what he was doing. I recommend the establishment find out who he is and get him to train the rest! There are other burger joints that will get my business in the future and I will not be recommending Burgers On The Edge to anyone!

HORRIBLE ! !…….Food, Workers, and Management are NOT tentative to their customers. I had a complaint and asked for a manager….15 minutes have passed and no one approached me yet……I asked the girl at the counter if a manager was available and her response was that he was on thee other side, so I said where is the other side, and she pointed across the safeway parking lot. What an idiotic person she is….Who in the world is responsible for employee training …MANAGEMENT YOU SUCK .
