Experience Holiday Magic on the Windward Side

One of the delights of the Christmas season on O’ahu is a visit to The Windward Mall in Kaneohe. Santa Claus arrived on November 22 and will be available for photos at the ‘Toyworks Santa Set’ in the Windward Mall’s Center Court from 10 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday and on Sundays from 11 AM to 5 PM. A brand new treat for shoppers is the ‘Snow Flurry Tree,’ which will delight everyone with a simulated snow flurry for fifteen minutes at the top of the hour daily between 1 PM and 8 PM.

There are other wonderful events happening at the Windward Mall during the 2008 holiday season. Those blessed with pets are invited to bring their dogs and/or cats, on a leash or in a carrier, to ‘Saint Nick’s Pet Pics’ between 6 PM and 9 PM on December 2nd or 9th to pose for photos with Santa Claus (“no claws, please”).  Pets will receive a treat courtesy of Ko’olau Pets. Windward Mall management requests that pet owners and their pets enter through one of the mall’s two main ground floor entrances.

What would the holidays be without children singing? On Saturday, December 13 from 2 PM to 3 PM the Kainalu Elementary Chorus & Percussion Corp will serenade shoppers with songs from various cultures. On Saturday the 20th from 2 PM to 2:30 PM the talented keiki from Ewa Elementary School will have “shoppers dreaming of a white Christmas with their holiday performance featuring rock, Latin, Hawai’i’an, and other seasonal songs.”  On Sunday, December 21 from 2 PM to 3 PM yet another delightful treat, Halau Hula Na Opio ‘O’Ko’olau led by Kumu Hula James and Michael Dela Cruz, will entertain the crowd with 25 talented dancers performing a variety of hula and Polynesian dances.

Those who are in a giving mood this holiday season are encouraged to participate in the KHON Lokahi Drive on Saturday, December 6 from 10 AM to 4 PM. The Windward Mall also provides a convenient drop off site for those wishing to donate toys, food, gifts, household goods for O’ahu’s less fortunate families. There will be live entertainment throughout the event by popular Island performers.

How much can you give this holiday season? You can give the gift of life by donating blood on December 13 or December 27 from 7 AM to 1 PM.  Simply look for the Hawai’i Bloodmobile parked on the corner of Haiku Road and Kamehameha.

Windward Mall’s General Manager, Jonathan Kin said, “Windward Mall’s new holiday experience creates a terrific backdrop for families to celebrate the season with family and friends while enjoying great savings on their holiday shopping, For residents who have not had the opportunity to experience the newly renovated and revitalized Windward Mall, we invite shoppers from around the island to visit us and enjoy our new holiday events and decor.”
