Hawai’i State Farm Fair July 18 & 19 2009

The excitement of a genuine farm fair returns to the lawn of the Bishop Museum Saturday July 18th and continues on Sunday July 19th 2009. The fun begins at 9AM running to 8 PM on Saturday and 5 PM Sunday. Admission is a modest $5 per adult or $3 for children ages 4 to 12, and admission includes entry to all museum attractions.

There will be a 4-H livestock exhibit with a show and auction. A farmers Market featuring locally grown produce, Hawai’i grown & made products such as jams & jellies, fresh baked bread, cakes & pies, and all sorts of specialty items you won’t find any place else. A ‘Huge’ Plant Sale is advertised promising “orchids, indoor/outdoor plants, native species,” and an opportunity to “ask the plant doctor.”

There will be all sorts of exhibits, cooking demonstrations, and special presentations, plus rides for the keiki (kids- – human variety), and live entertainment. But what truly makes this a farm fair will be the corn husking contest and the watermelon eating contest. Be prepared to make a pig of yourself!
