Celebrate the Holiday Season 2009 with not one but two free concerts by the all volunteer Oahu Civic Orchestra. A group of passionate musicians, the Oahu Civic Orchestra began way back in 1971 as the Windward Symphony, and as of 2009 going into 2010 they are Chaminade University’s Orchestra in Residence, therefore some of their members may be students earning credits but to their credit the entire orchestra performs for their collective love of music working for no more than the appreciation of their audiences under the guidance of Conductor Norma Parado assisted by Associate Conductors Ronald Hirai and Roy Yanagida.
The Oahu Civic Orchestra presents A Winter Concert featuring ‘Music of the Season,’ at 7:00 PM Monday December 14 2009 at Eiben Hall, Chaminade University, 3140 Waialae Avenue (http://www.chaminade.edu/about/campus_map.php) and then they offer a second concert 1:00 PM Sunday December 20 2009 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, 900 South Beretania Street (http://www.honoluluacademy.org/cmshaa/academy/index.aspx?id=431).
The program is delicious mix of classic & contemporary music: Program: Chorale Prelude, “Wach auf, uns die stimme”-by Bach. Variations on a Shaker Melody – by Copland. Nutcracker Suite Selections – Tchaikovsky. Holiday Memories – Arr. Herb Mahelona. Polar Express – Arr. Brubaker. All I Ask of You – Webber. Soloists: Norma Parado and Gerald Ting.
