Everyone is invited to Honolulu’s premiere monthly art party at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Friday June 25th 2010 beginning at 6PM with lots of fun stuff to do running to 9PM. A group of energetic volunteers chaired by Lacy Matsumoto and Town’s Ed Kenney & Keoni Willing have made this event possible, an event that is the perfect way to start off an evening of club hopping and parties.
Bali is the focus of June’s Art After Dark, a way to honor the annual Balinese Kite Festival in July. Check out the Banyan Courtyard to see some fantastic painted kites, while sampling the onolicious food at Town’s main food station.
Then from 6:30PM to 8:30PM venture over to the Luce Pavilion where there will an incredible array of Indonesian and Balinese masks which are not only on display but there will be masks you can try on, under the expert guidance of a Docent who will answer questions. Please, take pictures, no flash photography, but with a good quality camera you can capture your friends or yourself inside a Balinese or Indonesian mask.
All of the first floor galleries will be open during Art After Dark’s Bali High event, among the highlights: “Spotlight Gallery: Go on a docent-led zip tour of The Christensen Fund Gallery of Indonesian Art (Gallery 25), located behind Kinau Courtyard. Zip tour 1: 6:30-7:00pm Zip tour 2: 7:30-8:00pm; Please meet the docents inside the gallery.”

The organizers of Art After Dark seek to satiate all of the senses. DJ Silvana will spin down tempo house music from 6PM to 9PM in the Central Courtyard. The University of Hawai‘i’s Balinese Gamelan Ensemble Segara Madu will perform mesmerizing music and dance at 6:30-7:30pm and again at 7:45-8:45pm in the Kinau Courtyard. There will be food available from Town and Downtown in the Banyan Courtyard and by the bar at the Luce Pavilion.
The Honolulu Academy of Arts remains an easy walk and bicycle ride from most anywhere in urban Honolulu, as well as being located along the main cross twon us route, however for those who need accommodations for their vehicle: 1) FREE: The Diamond Head Parking Lot behind the Art Center at Linekona, entrances on Beretania and Young streets 2) FREE: First United Methodist Church Parking Lot on the corner of Beretania and Victorianb streets.
