There are certain rituals one observes religiously, at least once in one’s lifetime or at least during their years spent in Hawai’i a person must attend an event rightly billed as ‘Spectacular,’ the annual 4th of July celebration at Schofield Barracks.
When it comes to the Fourth the Army does it up expertly with a day chock full of fun for all ages and always a stellar musical act. Smash Mouth is the musical guest for 2010 joining a mix of equally gifted local & military musical artists including the winner of a recent Battle of the Bands contest. This event is free and open to the public, civilians come on down and get acquainted with those serving their nation.
The Fourth of July Spectacular combines sedate activities with the vigorous. Those that are fit and wish to display their athletic prowess are encouraged to join in a 5 K run, late registration at 8AM with the run commencing at 9AM. At 9AM children can register for a one mile run. The rest of you slackers can wander in around 10AM when the Information Booth opens with Event T-Shirt sales and Smash Mouth merchandise. Check out a chance to win $10,000 at the Info Booth with the Visible Vault. Those in need of a more definite cash infusion will find an ATM at the Info Booth/Tent. Those who feel the need for a new ride are encouraged to scope out the Tony Group Autoplex Tent for a chance to win a 2010 Hyundai.
Fireworks at Schofield Barracks will begin at 8 pm. Get a good spot for all the action.
