Fire Department Stays Busy on 4th of July

The Honolulu Fire Department kept very busy on the 4th of July; as it was called on to respond to 26 fire calls. With many of its companies already deployed, the HFD had to take on these 26 calls between 9PM and midnight. That averages out to around 9 calls an hour.

This further gives the Fireworks ban in congress even stronger legs to stand on, as residents continue to show year in and year out that they have no business lighting off fireworks of any kind.

If there were no this many fire calls every holiday, then maybe the fireworks ban bill would not have so much support. This – together with the growing number of burn and injury related calls, gives the bill its best opportunity yet to get the final passing votes.

Last nights biggest blaze was on the Kamehameha Ridge. The fire burned a couple of hundred acres in the area and came within a few hundred yards of town homes at “The Fairways” complex in Ko Olina. Fire crews had the blaze contained at around 5Am today but later returned to put out more hotspots.
