This episode titled Ho’apono, Hawaiian for accept, had a lot of truly Hawaii scenes in it with a lot of local flavor. Former Miss Teen USA and Miss Hawaii USA Kelly Hu played a big part in this weeks episode as Laura Hills, some direct contact with the governor. We saw her almost immediately when McGarret and Danno showed up at the USS Missouri.
Steve McGarrett’s past plays a huge role in this episode as a Navy Seal when a Seal goes a bit off his rocker (played by Adam Beach). The Seal, Graham, supposedly comes home to find his wife murdered. The police show up minutes later, he with the knife in his hand, and thus begins his running.
Graham is able to get away and makes it to the USS Missouri just down the street from his navy housing. Graham, suffering from PTSD, takes hostages at the Missouri and thats when Danno and McGarret show up to make things better.
McGarret, in true Hawaii Five-0 style, sneaks on the ship while Danno and Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) spend a lot of time together search Graham’s house and finding some interesting things out about the Seals wife, who turns out to have a Russian past.
The daughter of Graham and his mudered wife, turns out to be from another marriage back in Russia and, it just so happens that her ex husband (after they track his whereabouts down) turns out to be in Honolulu. The daughter, who hasn’t been talking since she was picked up by the police hiding at the house, is now with Kono (Grace Park).
While at a shave ice (which happens to be Ala Moana Beach Park) Kono gets distracted by a man the daughter recognizes and of course, gets kidnapped. Chin Ho, Danno, and Kono, are now in a race to get to the airport, where the daughters real father is set to leave on a private jet.
Meanwhile, McGarrett is busy playing doctor, negotiator, breaking out of being locked up, and getting hostages released. All before the SWAT team gets called in to shoot Graham before he goes crazy. As it turns out, the tour operator, played by the famous Robert Loggia, who new and looked up to McGarrett’s grandfather, a war hero who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor, gets to save the day.
Well, almost. Loggia saves McGarrett from getting shot by Graham, and then McGarrett turns and saves Graham from getting shot by the SWAT team. Finish off with a reuniting of father (Graham) and daughter, and you have a pretty decent Hawaii Five-0.
