Yani Tseng, the worlds number one women golfer came on strong in the final round after and erratic third round yesterday. She was able to put together a string of solid holes to hold off Michelle Wie and I.K. Kim who started the day one back.
Tseng finished the round 5 strokes ahead of Michelle Wie who was the closest from field. Tseng was able to put together a solid back nine to shoot a 6-under 66 to score 15-under for the tournament at Siam Country Club course in Chonburi, Thailand. Wie on the other hand couldn’t find a birdie on the last 9 holes. She played solid, consistent, but couldn’t pull ahead.
Michelle Wie, the Punahou graduate from Honolulu shot a 2 under 70 to finish at 10-under par and come in a respectable second place. I.K. Kim shot a 71 while Karrie Webb carded a 69 leaving both women tied for third at 9 under.
This was a great start to the year for the golfer from Hawaii and shows that she’s finally bouncing back after a few slow years which pushed her away from the men’s PGA tour and towards college at Standford and the LPGA.
We’ll have to wait and see what the next tournament brings for the young Wie.
