Snorkeling at Black Rock on Maui

Black Rock on the Island of Maui is at the end of the hotel row that lines Kaanapali Beach providing easy access to on of the best things to do on your Hawaii vacation. Officially it’s right in front of the Sheraton on Maui. You can park there, or any number of the hotels or parking areas available nearby.

If you didn’t bring any snorkeling gear, and don’t mind paying a little more, there are plenty of places you can rent gear. The Sheraton Maui has a spot right off the rock that you can rent for $15 – $25.

Although the waves don’t get too big here, you have to be careful of the current. Ask an official looking person hanging around renting boards and hear if you’re not sure.

The water here is usually crystal clear and there are plenty of fish to be scene. Don’t get too close to the Black Rock jump off point. Some people don’t look below before jumping in, so stay well clear of that area.

Black Rock or “Pu’u Keka’a” is the location on Maui that Hawaiians traditionally believed that their spirits left this world. Be respectful of such tradition when you’re poking around this sacred area.
