The Hurley Pro Trestles kicked off today in two-three foot conditions at Lower Trestles in California. The top three finishers from the Quiksilver New York Pro carried their momentum into round 1. Julian Wilson (AUS) disposed the two new Brazilian additions to the world tour, Alejo Muniz and Miguel Pupo, in his round 1 heat.
Wilson threw down the highest heat score of the day and moved right into round 3. World number 1, Kelly Slater (USA), and number 2, Owen Wright (AUS), both took heat wins and will bypass the second round. You can watch the live webcast here.

The Hawaiian contingent, John Florence, Fred Pattachia, and Dusty Payne, lost in round 1 and will surf in round 2. Local standout, Dane Reynolds (USA) will not be competing in the Hurley Pro. Event organizers will regroup tomorrow morning at 7am local time to assess conditions for a possible 8am start.
