Snow Falling in Hawaii on The Big Island

That’s right, it’s winter everywhere in the US, even in Hawaii. There’s a winter weather advisory on The Big Island of Hawaii and snow is falling on top of Mauna Kea. Just check out these photos of snow surrounding the Keck Observatory.

This picture was taken at 7:20 am on December 14th, 2011 (that’s today, right now). The temperature is just below freezing, about 30 F at the top and the winter advisory is in effect for both Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. The snowy weather will continue to fall on Hawaii until 6 pm tonight. As the rest of the islands deal with flooding, Mauna Kea gets a little snow.
