A Muddy Hike on The Maunawili Falls Trail

For those of you who’ve been to Maunawili you’ve probably noticed how green and big all the plants are. Well that isn’t just because they use Miracle Grow, the area gets a lot of rain.

One of the more popular hikes on the windward side of Oahu is the Maunawili Falls Trail that takes you back into the valley to a waterfall that kids (and adults) like to jump from into the pools below. Well, aside from flash flooding along the creek that often just trickles down from the rainy mountainside above, the trail itself can turn into a small river.

If you’re heading out hiking, don’t bring good shoes, even if the sun is in the sky, chances are, it was raining there early. These pictures are from a quick little hike on at the Mauanwili Falls trail after a week of rain. There were plenty people slipping all over the place and none were free of mud.
