Being a huge meat eater, I was happy to hear that The Whole Ox Deli opened up near where I work. Open for breakfast and lunch, we headed down for lunch to get a taste of what everyone was talking about.
The menu actually changes daily, so I suggest that if you see something you like, make sure you get it since it may not come back for quite some time. The first time I went, I ordered “The Press” which consisted of mortadella, capicolla, prosciutto, and gruyere cheese for $11. It was extremely delicious! The salty meats and the pickle with cheese paired really well together, and I knew I made the right choice. The next time, I ordered the Roastbeef which came with horseradish/cheddar sauce with crispy onions for $11. Also very delicious, and the horseradish sauce mixed with the cheddar threw me for a loop, since I was expecting the sauces to be separate. The roast beef was very tender and the horseradish was just perfect to compliment the beef.
I was able to try my friend’s “Porchettaboutit Doug” with fennal and cracklins for $10. Think thin slices of pork belly with deep fried pork skin and topped with fennal. Just like the Press, this sandwich was nice and salty and extremely tasty! For the price, I would definitely get this the next time, but I would have to run a few miles just to make it worthwhile.
My friends said all good things about their burger, BBK (smoked pork and cucumber sandwich), and falafel sandwich. I also hear that their pastrami is out of this world, but have yet to try it out. I would not hesistate to recommend The Whole Ox Deli if you are into meats and sandwiches! With their sandwiches being so tasty, I can’t wait to try out their breakfast!
