E Komo Mai
E Komo Mai means welcome and we would like to welcome you to our site, Aloha Update.
This site is designed to give both visitors and locals an update on things to do on the islands. Since
moving here we have enjoyed much of what the islands have to offer but have merely scratched the surface.
Living in Waikiki, with a new batch of people arriving daily with smiles glittering on their faces, we get to interact
and help people find that hotel, restaurant, surfboard rental, or bus stop.
Often we also find ourselves discussing with these perfect strangers our newest adventure outside of the tourist swamped areas like Waikiki. We have both come to find enjoyment in helping others see and hear more of what the islands have to offer.
We have met many people who have lived here there whole lives and never stepped foot into the water, or up into the mountains. Many haven't taken the puddle jump planes to the other islands, not even for a weekend. With so much variety between the islands we couldn't imagine living here and not seeing them all. Most tourist we've met, and we have done this as well, buy several books and wander the roads trying to see as much as they can. We strongly suggest picking these up if you haven't done so already. We have reviews of most of the books in our Get Before You Go section along with links to amazon to purchase them. Although these books show you enough places to see to keep you busy for a year per island we have found that some of our most interesting adventures have come at the suggestions of local some friends. (Those friends which do tend to take in the sights).
Therefore, we want to share as best we can with anyone who wants to come to Hawaii, as well as wanting to make our friends and family jealous enough to visit us, all our adventures and give you details that most tourist paphlets miss. We also want to try and add a more personal feel to finding out about the islands. We are developing Aloha Update and working to constantly update it with whatever we happend to find along our way. We hope you find our adventures interesting, informative, and at times humerous.
In order to keep track of everywhere we've been, we have divided the website up into the different islands which you can link to along the top. Then within each island site activities are listed on the left hand bar by general groupings, then further divided into more specific groups. This main page will keep you up to date on current events happening around Hawaii as well as give you general information on island life. Also for those of you who may regularly follow us, we will keep our latest adventure updated as soon as it happens.
Aloha!
Erik and Kim
