<p>The bounty hunter who has been made famous chasing down those that skip court dates and put his bail in jeopardy (and sometimes others bail), and doing this all in Hawaii none-the-less, has a new set of cameras following him. E! True Hollywood Story and their cameras have been following Dog and his family around Hawaii for the past week and will finish up taping for a show to air this May on E!.</p>
<p>Dog&#8217;s show continues to do well with his niche audience and continues to bring he and his family fame and fortune as they run their bail bonds shop from downtown Honolulu and live out in Portlock on the south east side of Oahu.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll let you know the exact date the show is going to air, so check back in our Dog section.</p>
<p>Also, check out <a href="http://www.dogthebountyhunter.com/">Dog the Bounty Hunter&#8217;s Site</a>.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The National Football League&#8217;s version of the all-star game, the <a href="<a href="http://www.alohaupdate.com/tag/pro-bowl/">Pro Bowl</a> returns to Hawaii in 2011 after taking a year off to test out a new NFL idea. The game will be played January 30th 2011, the week before the Super Bowl</p>
<p>As many of you may have realized this year, the NFL decided to play the Pro Bowl the week between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. The thought being that they would extend the excitmen of the Super Bowl for the participating city. </p>
<p>Well, although the viewership for the Pro Bowl had more TV viewers than ever before, the sentiment from the players was clear, they missed Hawaii.</p>
<p>Although it&#8217;s not clear whether it will stay, we&#8217;re glad, alon with coutless businesses that it&#8217;s back in Hawaii. Even if the Super Bowl players again won&#8217;t be making the trip.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-4868" href="http://www.alohaupdate.com/2010/03/01/neil-abercrombie-resigns-as-hawaii-us-representative/neil-abercrombie-hawaii/"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-4868" style="border: 0pt none; margin: 5px;" title="Neil Abercrombie Hawaii" src="http://www.alohaupdate.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Neil-Abercrombie-Hawaii.jpg" alt="" width="130" height="159" /></a> US House of Representative <a href="http://www.alohaupdate.com/tag/neil-abercrombie/">Neil Abercrombie</a> has officially resigned from his post leaving the seat vacant and Hawaii, one less represented in congress.  <a href="http://www.alohaupdate.com/2010/01/04/neil-abercrombie-to-resign-in-february/">As we reported ealier</a> the resignation took place on the last day of February, the 28th, 2010.</p>
<p>What will Abercrombie do from here out? Well, he wasn&#8217;t resigning to sip Mai Tai&#8217;s in Kahala. Nope, instead, he&#8217;s about to enter what we think will be a very heated battle for the Democratic nomination against <a href="http://www.alohaupdate.com/tag/mufi-hannemann/">Mufi Hannemann</a> to run for Governor of Hawaii. Linda Lingle will be done after this year, and the spot will be open for newcomers.</p>
<p>Although there was debate on how the state of Hawaii will fill the vacant seat it has now been decided that in May there will be a special election held. The debate was whether or not funds, around a million dollars, would be available to hold either a walk up or mail in ballot vote for the seat. We still don&#8217;t have word on which one it will be but we do know the election will be May 22nd.</p>

<description><![CDATA[The tsunami warning for all of the Hawaiian islands was lifted a little after 1:30 pm this afternoon opening the coastal highways and streets it once closed.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We&#8217;re finally back at home base after spending most of the day on the Pali highway hiking, people watching, and listening to the radio reports from various stations. Didn&#8217;t have a TV, but it sounded like the Hilo Bay cam that everyone was speaking of was pretty boring. And I&#8217;m not complaining about boring.</p>
<p>As of 1:30 pm ish, the Tsunami Warning for Hawaii was lifted and the coastal roads that were once closed were reopened. Beaches were reopened, stores began to see life and traffic definitely felt like a saturday as we headed back home.</p>
<p>All in all we thought the state of Hawaii did pretty darn good. Yeah it was boring, yeah their predictions turned out to be wrong, but what if they had been right, and no one was evacuated? I just hope that next time this happens (well actually I don&#8217;t hope it happens again) but if it does, I hope everyone takes the same precautions and heads for the hills.</p>
<p>I for one will be packing the pop-up tent, hibachi, and a deck of cards. The hike was nice though. For more info, pictures and more, check out <A href="http://www.alohaupdate.com/tag/tsunami/">our Hawaii Tsunami section</a>. More photos to come.</p>

<p>Thank goodness this thing has been boring. Don&#8217;t believe what you&#8217;re reading out there. Nothing too exciting here yet. Hawaii officials did a good job gettin people out. </p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We are reporting from the Pali after having to evcuate pur low lying area. </p>
<p>Everyone in low lying areas should get to higher ground. Although the tsunami levels are lowering and there is a lot of time before any waves would hit the islands, the people in lower lying areas are on the move.</p>
<p>Livng a few hundred feet from the water, we headed out this mornig and are currently on the Pali along with a quite a few other people. There are little encampments and in true Hawaiian style, the tents are up, chairs are out, and the waiting has begun.</p>
<p>Eventhough the potential tsunami threat of huge waves is lowering for most if Hawaii, please be safe.</p>

<description><![CDATA[The two local daily newspapers, Honolulu Advertiser and Star Bulletin will merge be one if the Star Bulletin daily publication can't be sold off.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What will happen to my newspaper?  That&#8217;s the question on everyone&#8217;s mind around Honolulu, Oahu, and much of the Hawaiian islands.</p>
<p>With yesterdays news of the parent company of the Star Bulletin, <a href="http://www.alohaupdate.com/2010/02/25/star-bulletin-buys-honolulu-advertiser/">Oahu Publications, Inc. buying the Honolulu Advertiser</a> it&#8217;s pretty much the only news you can find on either newspapers website. So why wouldn&#8217;t we be writing about it&#8230; right? Well, as you read more and more, the deal comes into better light. The word on the street is that the two newspapers will merge into one, and that the <a href="http://www.alohaupdate.com/tag/star-bulletin/">Star Bulletin</a> daily publication will either be sold off if someone wants to buy it, or be closed up, and merged into the <a href="http://www.alohaupdate.com/tag/honolulu-advertiser/">Honolulu Advertiser</a> daily newspaper completely. </p>
<p>Now all this is pending approval from the Department of Justice, and may never happen, but that&#8217;s unlikely, especially given some of the recent mergers of other news outlets. The advertiser reports that it continues to make a profit with its 130,000 some odd subscribers to the daily circulation and high traffic to it&#8217;s website. While the Star Bulletin continues to struggle, not making a profit for some time.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s unlcear what will happen to the employees at either office. Word is that the advertiser will be moving in with the Star Bulletin crew at Waterfront Plaza, since the Advertiser building on Kapiolani is not part of the sale. Also, unsure what will happen to their websites, if they will stay, or be merged and redirected to one, most likely The Star Bulletin&#8217;s site.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll keep you posted as news of this filters out, but if you&#8217;d like to read more you can check out the <a href="http://www.starbulletin.com/news/20100226_Sign_of_the_times.html">Star Bulletin&#8217;s article</a> or a good question and answer article on the <a href="http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/20100226/NEWS01/2260397/1352">Advertisers site</a>.</p>
