All Time Low at Pipeline Cafe

All Time Low is clearly a band on their way up, giving them a listen one can imagine them achieving mega-stardom, their songs are infectiously fun catchy pop jingles well written, insightful and memorable, their musicianship sharp & incisive, they have certainly earned a loyal following in Honolulu first appearing on the local scene at the time of the debut of their third album, on the strength of that show All Time Low have earned a return to Honolulu., kicking off August with a concert at the perfect club venue Pipeline Café Sunday August 1st 2010 at 7PM.

Vocalist/Guitarists Alex Gaskarth and Zack Merrick, guitarist Jack Bakarat, and drummer Rian Dawson were named as “Band of the Year for 2008” by Alternative Press Magazine, they have released three albums/CDs of new material and one live album, Straight to DVD released on May 25th 2010.  Though All Time Low broke on to the scene with ‘Coffee Shop Soundtrack’ from their debut album, scoring acclaim for ‘Dear Maria, Count Me In’ and ‘Popping Champagne,’ from their 2nd release (So Wrong, It’s Right), it was their ‘Nothing Personal’ release that confirmed that All Time Low was growing stronger with each album, each track on ‘Nothing Personal’ has something to offer, with ‘Stella,’ ‘Weightless’ and ‘A Party Song’ instant airwave staples (in those places where alternative pop gets airplay).

It’s Bieber Fever time here in Hawaii and I’m pretty sure if you listen to the radio, you’re hearing about Justin Bieber coming to Hawaii. But how can you get tickets? The Blaisdell only holds about 10,000 people. And with only two shows, that’s not a lot of tickets to be sold for this teen heart throb.

Mainlanders will no doubt make vacations of this concert making it even more difficult for people to get tickets. So how do you win them? Well below are all the radio stations, times, and websites for how to get your hands on some Hawaii Bieber Fever. Think about a way to tune in online to all stations and you could win lots of tickets.

All this week Maleko and Flash will be giving away tickets on their morning show on Hot 93.9 FM. Constest announcements start every morning at 6:20 am with the contest being a question that the 94th caller has to answer correctly. So far it looks like 2 tickets per morning, but keep listening for more info.

Also on 93.9 FM and from BIG Koa’s Twitter account it looks like he’ll be giving away Bieber tickets every day on his show from noon to 6 PM this week. Check back here for more info on approximately what time in the show.

It looks like 102.7 da Bomb is also giving away tickets in the morning and the afternoon shows to Justin Bieber, but there’s not much info out there on their twitter account or facebook page. We’ll keep you posted on approximate times, but tune in to them if you want.

Get Your Brass to Kauai

Hawai’i’s premiere Honolulu Symphony Brass Quintet is set to give a free concert Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 7PM to 9PM at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center.

A perfect excuse to break away to the Garden Isle, an evening of upbeat Brass music, reservations are not required, seating is open.  Though free everyone is free to make a donation “This event is co-sponsored by the Larry L. McIntosh Music Scholarship Association, a non-profit organization that grants scholarships to high school seniors who plan to continue their music studies in college.

Kalichstein, Laredo, Robinson Trio in Waimea

There is a remarkable rapport between the piano the violin the cello especially when they are in the hands and at the fingertips of a talented trio of musicians.  Pianist Joseph Kalichstein, violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson have delighted audiences for thirty three years making their debut at the inauguration of President Carter in January 1977.

Though each has enjoyed solo success it is their work as a trio that has audiences across the planet welcoming them into concert halls and theatres including the prestigious Kahilu Theatre in Waimea on The Big Island of Hawai’i, where they will perform on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 8PM.

The Makaha Sons Celebrate 34 Years at The Doris Duke Theater

Monday, February 22, 2010 7PM the place to be is the Doris Duke Theater at The Honolulu Academy of Arts, when The Makaha Sons celebrate 34 years as a vital component of that gem known as Hawai’i’an Music. Pioneers who continue to blaze new trails into the 21st Century, reinvigorating Hawai’i’an music with incomparable vocal arrangements, dynamic musicianship, and truly delightful stage presence.

America was celebrating its Bicentennial in 1976 when five performers calling themselves The Makaha Sons of Niihau began playing at a small nightclub called ‘Uptown Yokos.’  Through the decades the musical line up has seen changes, some necessitated by professional demands others by the untimely passing of two members of the band. Over time the group has become a trio consisting of Louis “Moon” Kauakahi on 6-string guitar, John Koko on upright acoustic bass and Jerome Koko on 12-string guitar.

The Makaha Sons have travelled the Globe sharing their love for these Islands performing in venues as prestigious as Carnegie Hall and for audiences including Presidents and Monarchs. They have received numerous awards but above all the love and devotion of their fans.

Liane Carroll In Concert On The Big Island

One of Britain’s best Jazz Vocalist Liane Carroll will be performing at The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai on the Kona Coast of The Big Island of Hawai’i on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 6:30PM.  The Big Islands’ “Olliephonics” join Liane Carroll for an elegant evening of “Jazz, Big Band, Dancing and Love.”

London born Liane Carroll began her musical odyssey at age three tinkling the ivory keys under the tutelage of concert pianist Phyllis Catling, developing a passion for Jazz and Soul and much more.  Her professional career began at age fifteen in her native Hastings, appearing with various bands as a pianist, vocalist and composer.  In 1998 Liane Carroll  joined Trevor Watts’ ‘Moire Music’ featuring Liam Genockey, Nana Tsiboe and Simon Picard, where they would embark on several world tours.

Experimenting and experiencing a variety of musical line-ups, Liane joined the ‘Dave Holdsworth’ band where she met Bassist Roger Carrey, who she married in 1990, he has become a vital part of her life & career, through the many diverse musical lineups she has joined.  An impressive list of Jazz greats as well as musical legends from various genres; Sir Paul McCarthy, Long John Baldry, Gerry Rafferty, many others.  Along the way Liane Carroll has snagged two BBC Jazz awards in the same year, and a loyal Global following.

February 2010 is fast shaping up as the month when a visit to a friendly neighbor isle for a music fix moves to the ‘must do’ list.  Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum are an acoustic duo whose impressive talents encompass traditional bluegrass, contemporary casual country and pop bringing to the mix a pair of dynamic voices, superb musicianship, playful fun and professionalism.

Friday, February 5th, 2010 at 7PM they bring their act to the North Shore of Kauai to The Church of the Pacific in Princeville.

Though both artists have pursued successful solo careers they are perhaps best beloved as a duo their voices & musical styling a perfect match, resulting in a dozen acclaimed albums.  Laurie Lewis is a delightful singer songwriter adept at violin & bass, while Tom Rozum is simply amazing playing the mandolin as well as fiddle & guitar, a fine singer with a playful stage presence, together they deliver verve sass fun.

Tokyo String Quartet at the Kahilu Theater
